Package managers as philosophies

I’ve been dealing with so many package managers lately I’ve begun weighing their differences as philosophies in my head.

For instance:

  • Flatpak: all Linux installations are containers for other Linux installations
  • Nix: a “system” is a state of space-time
  • Guix: a “system” is a state of space-time, and frees one’s mind

Anyhow, figured I’d open up the thoughts to see what ya’ll are thinking. I don’t even know how proprietary warez gets peddled these days, but from the Flathub repo I’m guessing it along the same lines.

What your package management system’s creed?
